If you expect to board Toei buses several times in one day, buying a one-day pass can cost you less than paying a fare on every ride. To give the conclusion first: as of August 2026 the Toei Bus one-day pass costs ¥500 for adults and ¥250 for children, and it lets you ride Toei buses inside the 23 wards as many times as you like in a day. The adult fare at the same point in time is ¥210 per ride, so three rides in a day are enough to break even.

A day of shopping plus a hospital visit by bus, a day of errands one after another, a day of unhurried sightseeing from a bus window. A return trip plus a single stop-off already reaches three rides, so the pass earns its keep more often than you might expect. Types of Toei Bus one-day pass and what they cost

As of August 2026 the Toei Bus one-day pass comes in three formats: a magnetic ticket, which is the paper version; an IC one-day pass, which is loaded onto a transit IC card such as PASMO or Suica; and a digital one-day pass bought on a smartphone. All three cost ¥500 for adults and ¥250 for children, and all three cover the same area: Toei buses inside the 23 wards, excluding route 江東 01.

Each format has its own fine print. The IC one-day pass can only be issued on PASMO and Suica; no other transit IC card can carry it. The magnetic ticket is also sold in advance, valid on any single day within six months of the date of sale, so you can buy one ahead of time once your plans are set. Loading a pass onto an IC card, by contrast, is for same-day use only.

Where can you buy one? On board is the easiest

The simplest way to buy is to ask the driver on the bus you have just boarded. As of August 2026, same-day magnetic tickets and IC one-day passes are sold on board Toei buses inside the 23 wards, excluding route 江東 01. Magnetic tickets are paid for in cash, while the IC version is deducted from the stored value on your PASMO or Suica. When buying the IC version on board, tell the driver you would like a one-day pass (in Japanese, 一日乗車券をください, "Ichinichi jōshaken o kudasai") before you touch the fare box, then touch as instructed. If you touch first, the normal fare is taken instead.

Besides on board, passes are also sold at Toei Bus depots and branch offices and at commuter pass sales offices. The digital one-day pass is bought in a smartphone app, which accepts cashless payment such as credit cards. It spares you the need to have cash ready at a counter or on the bus, so it is a handy option if you are comfortable with a smartphone. How it differs from the Toei Marugoto Kippu: ¥700 if you also ride the subway

On a day when you use not only Toei buses but the Toei Subway as well, there is another option: the Toei Marugoto Kippu (都営まるごときっぷ). As of August 2026 it sells for ¥700 for adults and ¥350 for children. It is a one-day pass for the whole Toei transport network, giving unlimited rides on the Toei Subway, Toei Bus, the Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line) and the Nippori-Toneri Liner.

• Toei Bus one-day pass (adult ¥500) - covers Toei buses inside the 23 wards only. For days you travel by bus alone
• Toei Marugoto Kippu (adult ¥700) - also covers the Toei Subway, the tram and the Nippori-Toneri Liner. Toei buses in the Tama area can be used as well

Choosing between them is straightforward. If you will also ride the Toei Subway or the tram that day, those fares disappear entirely, which makes the ¥200 difference easy to recover. On a day that involves a subway trip out and back, in particular, the Marugoto Kippu comes out ahead almost every time. Conversely, on a day you use nothing but buses, the Toei Bus one-day pass leaves you ¥200 better off. And if you plan to ride Toei buses in the Tama area, the Toei Bus one-day pass is valid only inside the 23 wards, so the Marugoto Kippu is the one to buy.

Note that both passes cover Toei transport and nothing else: they are not valid on Tokyo Metro subway lines or on privately operated buses. Even a "subway" falls outside the pass if a different company runs it, so keep that in mind.

Points to watch when you use it

Here are the points where people most often trip up in practice.

• Validity runs by the calendar day. A pass bought for same-day use is valid only on that day. It is not a 24-hour ticket, so even if you buy one in the evening it expires that night.
• An advance magnetic ticket goes through the fare box on the first ride only. That is to print the day's date on it; from the second ride onwards, simply showing the driver the side with the date is enough.
• One person per IC card. A single PASMO or Suica cannot carry one-day passes for two or more people. To travel as a family, bring one card per person or use magnetic tickets.
• Route 江東 01 is not covered. It is Koto City's community bus route, and one-day passes are not valid on it.
• Refunds come with conditions. An advance magnetic ticket can be refunded, less a handling fee, as long as it has not been used and is still within its validity period. Same-day tickets and passes loaded onto an IC card cannot be refunded.

One more thing: as of August 2026 the Bureau also advertises a scheme under which showing a magnetic one-day pass on the day it is valid earns discounts and other perks at facilities and shops along the routes. The IC and digital versions are not eligible, so if the perks appeal to you, the magnetic ticket is the one to choose.

In summary: before you head out, count how many times you will ride today

The Toei Bus one-day pass gives an adult unlimited rides on Toei buses inside the 23 wards for ¥500, and it pays for itself after three rides (as of August 2026). Before you leave home, make a rough count of how many buses you are likely to take. Three or more, buy the one-day pass; add the subway or the tram, buy the Marugoto Kippu; two or fewer, just pay the normal fare. That single judgment is enough to keep your everyday travel costs comfortably down.
